Employment Law - Employee
I represent employees and unemployed workers before the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the United States Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, the Massachusetts District Court, and the Massachusetts Superior Court.
For unemployed workers, unemployment benefits provide temporary compensation to those individuals who meet certain eligibility requirements under the law. If you have filed a claim for unemployment benefits with the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance and have been denied, call my offices at (978) 291-8101 to schedule an initial consultation so I may assess how best to handle your matter.
In Massachusetts, the following behaviors are unlawful in the workplace:
- sexual harassment
- discriminatory employment practices based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender identity, age, disability, sexual orientation, genetics, and/or active military status
- any retaliation by the employer against the employee for opposing such forbidden employment practices
In Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) and the United States Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) are the two agencies that investigate and rule on employment discrimination cases.
I also assist employees with reviewing new-hire documentation and paperwork, as well as reviewing and negotiating employment contracts and severance packages.
In addition, I am well versed in handling union employment matters, including issues with collective bargaining agreements and prevailing wage disputes.
